“Discussing the Inclusion Illusion”, The Colour of Research webinar

As businesses increasingly turn to AI for insights and research, are you stopping to ask:

“Who is being left out of the data? What biases might we be reinforcing as a result?”

Our Research Community Manager Rebecca recently attended The Colour of Research (CORe)‘s webinar “Discussing the Inclusion Illusion”. The key takeaway for us was the important point that AI models are only as inclusive as the data they’re trained on. When that data overlooks marginalised voices, so do the insights.

Tools built for speed and scale often miss the nuance and complexity of real human experiences. Without that understanding, decisions risk being made on partial truths, or worse, on assumptions that deepen inequality.

“Efficiency without equity is not progress” – which is why we start at the margins. By working with real people with lived experience, the businesses we support can challenge the assumptions baked into their default datasets to design more inclusive tools, services, and systems, with equity at the centre.
