Three brilliant lived experts from our research community shared their experiences of problem debt as part of the NewDay Vulnerability Week.
One lived expert spoke powerfully about how she ended up with around £1000 of credit card debt after suffering from Long Covid. After four years of monthly payments, the debt still remains and she sees no hope of paying it off. The interest alone keeps her stuck – the increase of £13 a month needed to start reducing the debt is beyond her means. The burden of persistent debt continues to impact her mental health, and has become a fact of life.
We amplify stories like these so that businesses can better understand the real-life situations their customers find themselves in, and work towards designing more helpful and compassionate systems.
